About the Authors

Thank you for visiting our blog! It is written by Kevin and Sara Mahoney. Here is a little bit about each one of us, and why we decided to write this blog:

Sara: I have a PhD in Exercise Physiology and am currently an Assistant Professor in Texas. I have been a runner all my life (well, since I was 12 anyway!) . I ran in college and was an assistant cross country coach while I finished my PhD at the University of South Carolina. I have been a free lance writer for Livestrong.com for the past two years and hope I can get published more in the future!

Kevin: I just got out of the Marine Corps after 8 years of service and I am currently a firefighter. I am a certified martial arts instructor, water survival instructor and physical training instructor.  I run with my wife, but I also love any kind of intense exercise. I love to be outdoors; shooting, fishing, or out on a boat.

The two of us developed this site not only because exercise and health are a vital part of our everyday lives, but because we had to learn how to become healthy together. When we first got married, Kevin still ate like an 18 year old; his favorite meal was pizza dipped in nacho cheese sauce. We only saw each other on weekends and got in some pretty bad habits of treating ourselves to whatever sounded good. Once I (Sara) began pointing out the dangers of eating so much fat and sugar, Kevin decided a change was in order. He has heart disease and diabetes in his family and I couldn’t stand the idea of him being at risk for a heart attack. We both started eating more vegetables and I taught Kevin how to cook chicken in a skillet. We were both amazed at how much better we felt getting proper nutrition and regular exercise. We started craving the bad stuff less and less (although neither one of us would turn down a brownie!) and when realized how much our lives had improved, we wanted to help other couples do the same thing.

We just published our first ebook about how to lose weight while in a relationship! It’s available on the kindle and on amazon. Please come check it out! We’d love your feedback.

Wow! You have a blog… I’m impressed, and want to become a follower. Hope all is well with you. I had a wonderful birthday celebration with your Mom, Sara, leading the way. We had a great day on the beach, complete with a walk and wade in the ocean. I hope you’ll stay in touch…I want to know everything about your new life!

    Much love always, Grammie

  6. It’s funny how we get into a comfort zone when we’re in relationships right? Boyfriends have always meant an extra 10-15 pounds for me 🙂 I’m trying to change that.

Cool blog! Thanks for posting to mine regarding standing while working.

I’d be curious to hear what you think about some of my other posts. Just as my wife and I always have – you two look very healthy. But, you may want to look into the Paleo Lifestyle as it helps take care of the things you can’t see – anxiety, depression, mood, blood pressure, stomach issues, etc. I always thought I was eating healthy (low fat, blah blah), but now I see things in a whole new light.
